ABOUT
WOWB
OUR
HISTORY.
For nearly three decades, Lydia Friend has been dedicated to serving and improving the lives of Watts residents. In 2003, she established Women of Watts as a grassroots organization to assist and support children and families burdened by gang violence and the subsequent tragic loss of a parent or loved one by providing advocacy and resources.

The first major act of advocacy is what Lydia and Women of Watts is most known for, its Stop the Violence marches, which has become an annual staple to the Watts community.
In 2017, the organization became Women of Watts and Beyond. WOWB brings the community together as a means to callout and teach against gang violence and its destruction against Black and Brown lives.

Lydia's sacrificial giving has greatly impacted the Watts community and while there is still more work to be done, she is confident that her labor will continue to inspire and influence generations to come.
